October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a reminder that protecting your digital information is crucial—especially in healthcare, where data must move quickly between care teams but remain safe.
In Connecticut, Connie—the state-designated health information exchange (HIE)—is a trusted partner in keeping health information secure. For Connie, protecting health data isn’t just about compliance with regulations; it’s a commitment to safeguarding the sensitive information entrusted to us by patients and providers throughout the state.
Every day, Connie enables the sharing of data between covered entities appropriately, safely and efficiently. Behind that exchange is a security program built on constant monitoring, independent verification, and collaboration with leading technology, government, and health data experts. It’s a system designed to keep information flowing to support optimal patient outcomes while also keeping it protected.

Verified by Independent Review
Connie’s infrastructure meets some of the most rigorous standards in the industry—the same standards used to assess the nation’s largest healthcare and technology companies.
Connie is HITRUST Certified, reflecting compliance with more than 40 established security frameworks, ensuring every layer of data is carefully protected.
In addition, Connie and its infrastructure partner, CRISP Shared Services, participate in voluntary annual tabletop incident exercises with other security industry leaders. We also submit our infrastructure to an annual security evaluation that includes audits by SOC-2 Type 2, Cybersecurity Testing, HIPAA/HITECH, plus penetration testing by independent cybersecurity firms.
Both organizations conduct continuous monitoring to detect and stop threats in real time. This proactive approach means protections evolve as fast as the threat landscape itself.

Ongoing Vigilance

Connie’s team and partners continuously monitor for new threats, apply system updates, and incorporate lessons from national security initiatives to strengthen their defenses. Through its technology partnerships, Connie benefits from decades of experience managing secure health data systems across multiple states.
From encryption and access controls to employee training and disaster recovery planning, every part of Connie’s security program is built to anticipate risks rather than simply respond to them. Connie also works with hospitals, practices, and other partners to promote strong cybersecurity practices across the state—because protecting health information is a shared responsibility.
Connie remains focused on maintaining trust and transparency while protecting the privacy of every Connecticut resident. Strong cybersecurity isn’t just a technical requirement; it’s a cornerstone of reliable, patient-centered care.
